02. Eligibility of Marriage:

03. Court Marriage Registration Process in Nepal

Following procedure has to be followed to do court marriage in Nepal:

Step 1:  Receive the single status certificate from the respective ward office by both Spouses.

Step 2: Submission of application before the District Court of Nepal.

Step 3: The court will Examine the documents.

Step 4: Upon fulfilling the legal requirement, the Court shall grant the Court Marriage Certificate.

04. Documents required for court marriage between two Nepalese Spouse

The following documents are required for the registration of marriage in Nepal:

Note: Temporary residence document is not required if the couple is doing court marriage in the district court jurisdiction where their citizenship was issued.
5Four copies of passport size photo of both the man and woman each.
6If any person was previously married, a divorce decree is required.

06. Additional document required for the Court marriage in case any of the individual is foreign citizen

Should any person be a foreign citizen, the same above specified court marriage registration procedure also applies. Only can they seek for court marriage registration in Nepal; they must also provide extra paperwork and stay at least 15 days.

07. TimeLine For Marriage Registration Where any of the couple is a foreign citizen:


1. Need to stay in Nepal at least for 15 days to qualify to apply for marraige registration before court.
2. After stay for 15 days in Nepal, one additional day is required to receive the temporary resident letter from ward office.
3. After receiving the temporary resident letter, it will take 2 to 3 days for the completion of court proceeding.
